John Ricci, VP of Coporate Development for NextEdge Networks, served on the panel “Smart Buildings Lay the Foundation for Smart Communities” at TIA NOW’s Network of the Future® in Plano, TX earlier this month. The conference explored a wide range of perspectives that center on the essential infrastructure foundations needed for advancing connectivity and economic opportunity across every industry and every market.
Following the panel event, John was interviewed about what’s next for smart buildings by Clarence Reynolds, Anchor & Editorial Director of TIA, alongside John Foley, General Manager of the Safer Buildings Coalition.

“How do you determine how smart a smart building is?” asks John Ricci. His answer: “We want to look at the criteria in a scoring way to understand how that building stacks to allow owners to determine market base and for tenants to evaluate. You start at connectivity, both wired and wireless, then sensors that use analytics around the data they collect, from which the building begins to learn. Resiliency and ability to bounce back, and beyond that, public safety, user experience and usability, productivity and comfort of workers, residents and guests, and how do we do that in an efficient way. How do we tie that all together and integrate all of those different moving parts? That’s with a full functionality building management system that integrates all those together.”
